This Month at Listen at Arthurs we have three very different flavours of improvised music !
This month: guitarist and singer Niwel Tsumbu, and percussionist Éamonn Cagney will be performing music with sources ranging from classical to Central African music. Flautist Lina Andonovska and drummer Matthew Jacobson performing stunning new work by Composers Barry O’Halpin and Nick Roth. and Finally as part of Music Network's "Masters and Rising Stars series" pianists Phil Ware and Luke Howard take to the stage for an interesting new piano duo.

This month we catch up with songwriter, guitarist, basist and all round nice guy Tommy Moore, he'll be playing a solo set of his latest tunes. Fuzzy Logic Ensemble will make a welcome return to our stage, with new music from composer Dylan Rynhart. They will be previewing music from their long awaited third album, due for release in 2019. With Sue Rynhart (voice), Izumi Kimura (piano), Nick Roth (saxophone), Derek Whyte (bass) & Matt Jacobson (drums). And, on top of all of this we have a soon to be announced surprise act, which you won't want to miss !

This month will feature some music from the internationally acclaimed Dublin Guitar Quartet. Pianist, Composer and Songwriter Josh Johnston will be performing new music from his latest album. This Month at Listen at Arthurs we have one of our largest evenings of music ever!, with A Gamalan, Classical piano trio, Folk, Songwriters and Contemporary music. It's an ambitious night, you're gonna love it !
Catch up with Songwriter Miriam Ingram, who will be playing some new music with her band. The RIAM Trio Con Brio will be performing Beethoven’s Geister trio. Composer Jonathan Nangle and Alex Petcu will be bringing us some new music by Johnathan. Sue Rynhart will be performing some new songs accompanied by guitrist Charlie Mooney and this will all be interspersed with a wash of music from the NCH Gamalan lead by Composer Peter Moran. It's gonna be a massive night, don't miss it !

Silver Kites will be performing new and experimental music for vocal trio. Featuring vocalists and composers: Fionnuala Conway, Lenka Dobai and Judith Ring
Fuzzy Logic Ensemble will be performing some new music inspired by speech melody and bird song. Featuring: Sue Rynhart (voice), Izumi Kimura (piano), Nick Roth (saxophone), Derek Whyte (bass) & Matt Jacobson (drums).
DIT Saxophone Quartet will be performing a programme of classical and contemporary classical music to be confirmed.

Eilís Lavelle (harp) and Robert Harvey (flute) will perform a variety of traditional Irish music. Billy O Hanluain will be joining us again to read some of his new, powerful and witty stories. Songwriter Sarah Buckley will be performing music from her new EP "Moonstruck" with her band including: Jamie Leigh (guitar) and Daniel Wheatley (bass) and last but not least, Jazz vocalist and songwriter Riona Sally Hartman will be giving a special performance of her exciting new solo show.

Our first Listen at Arthurs of 2018 and our first Wednesday Listen at Arthurs !
We kick off the year with a bang ! we'll be bringing you Shakespearean Lute, Jazz Guitar and Bass Duo, an Irish Bollywood Classic short film and some Improvising heavy metal.
Eamon Sweeney will be playing early guitars and renaissance lute, a program including music from Dublin dating from the late 16th/early 17th century, he will also be joined by vocalist Sue Rynhart. Bassist Barry Donohue and Guitarist Scott Kohlmann will be performing some of their own brand of Jazz inspired by the unique tradition of this classic line-up. We will be screening "Moore Street Masala", the iconic Dublin / Bollywood short film Directed by David O'Sullivan. And finally Sean Maynard Smith will be leading us through the looking-glass with his unique improvising heavy metal trumpet, bass and drums trio.

This October we are back from our month off. This month we are, again flying into the clear blue skies of the post-genre future with a neat night of Imporvised music, Jazz, Folk and Film.
Vocalist Sue Rynhart and her Quartet will be joining us as part of a tour that sees her across Ireland and Europe. Folk artist Hanora George will be performing with her banjo hot on the heals of her new album release. Improvisers Izumi Kimura and guitarist Joe O'Callaghan will anoint us with a flavour of their designer sound. And Director Vanessa Gildea will present her beautiful and visceral, award winning short film "The Abandoning".

Co. Clare singer and guitarist SÍOMHA will be performing her beautifully crafted jazz and soul infused songs. Violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain will be performing poinient works for solo Violin by Bach and Ysaye. Peter Moran will be performing his impressionistic collection of 'Dublin Minitures' for solo Piano and to top it all off, we will have a Talk on Art History relating to Schoenberg by art historian Jessica Fahy

This month at Listen at Arthurs we have another stunning infusion of genres with Jazz, Cello Duo, Prose, Songs and a New Composition
We have a stunning cello duo of Yue Tang and Sokol Koka, who will be performing the Sonata for Two Cellos in G Major, No. 10 by Jean-Baptiste Barrière and The Butterfly Lovers Concerto by Zhanhao He / Gang Chen (Arr. For Two Cellos by Yue Tang). Writer and Songwriter Jona Xhepa will be reading from her new Novella intersperced with beautiful songs. Guitarist Michael Nielsen will be performing on his beautiful Microtonal Guitar with vocalist Ellen Demos and drummer Shane O'Donovan. The Dukes of Banjax: Joe O'Farrell (banjo) and David Bremner (live electronics) will be performing their wonderful composed/imporvised madness. And Finally, Soprano Elizabeth Hilliard will be performing excerpts from Christopher Fox’s Catalogue Irraisoné

Pianist Francesco Turisi will be performing with his Taquin trio of cellist Kate Ellis and saxophonist Nick Roth. We will have Irish stories and myths from Sorcha and Aron Hegarty's Candlelit Tales. Vocalist and Composer Sue Rynhart will be performing music from her new album 'Signals' with double bassist Dan Bodwell and percussion and accordion from Francesco Turisi. And we will have some Bloomsday inspired Light Opera from Soprano Mary O’ Sullivan, and pianist Andrew Synnott.

This month at Listen at Arthurs we have a wildly different mix of Stand-up Comedy and Classical Guitar, Unaccompanied irish traditional Voice, Medievel Bretanc Pipes and Avant-Garde Guitar.
Visual artist, Storyteller and Writer Helen McNulty will be performing a special and hilarious show all about her experiences of being Pregnant. Classical Guitarist Alec O'Leary will be performing music by Sergio Assad, and Isaac Albeniz. Irish traditional singer, Folklore and Ethnology lecturer Ciarán Ó Gealbháin will be performing unaccompanied songs with a unique heritage from Sean-Phobal, in the Waterford Gaeltacht. Guitarist / Producer Gavin Prior will be giving a special performance with his homemade 'Springthing' instrument

For this springtime edition of Listen At, we bring you a pastoral, liminal and contemporary night of music and spoken word. Featuring a piano recital by Dublin composer and wide-reaching musician Martin O'Leary, experimental poetry from renowned poet and curator Christodouls Makris, a blend of Irish and Scottish traditional into contemporary tunes from harpist Triona Marshall and vocalist Alyth McCormack, as well as mastermind of the uilllean pipes Mick O'Brien who will be joined by Martin O'Leary for a special collaboration.
This series of concerts aims to bring together a blend of the traditional, the modern, and everything in between, creating one of Dublin's most eclectic arts showcases. Tickets are 10 euro which can be purchased at the door.

Jazz Pianist Justin Carroll will be visiting us from his new home of New York and showcasing an exciting new band featuring Brian Wynne, Sean Maynard Smith and Gonzalo Del Val. And Finally Composer and Listen at co-manager Peter Moran will perform a programme of spoken word music, from a range of artists and composers including Jennifer Walshe, Tom Johnson and Kurt Schwitters, as well as his own work.

At the first Listen at Arthurs of the New Year we have our first Comedian, Three very different Singers and some Hot Jazz.
Stand up Comedian Eleanor Tiernan (form Irish Pictorial Weekly) will be performing some new material. Elizabeth Hilliard will be perfoming music from her new Album "Sea to the West", a collection of works written for Elizabeth by Living Irish Composers. Singer Songwriter and Gaeilgeoir Gráinne Holland will be performing her beautiful and innovative Songs. Traditional Irish singer Padraig O Nuallain will sing for us some beautiful Irish airs with his rich deep voice. And to round off the evening, we will have some jazz from the 20's and 30's with the gypsy stylings of the The Tolka Hot Club.

In 1947, Woody Guthrie wrote a letter to John Cage in admiration of his compositions for prepared piano, describing them as "… a keen fresh breeze … a welcome thing in the way of a healthy change from the old ways you hear a piano played … a whole forest and desert mountain full of these fine things…"
This unexpected connection between these two very different but hugely influential artists is the inspiration behind this evenings' programme. Featuring songs and compositions, poetry and prose, rare video footage, and a unique experiment in audience participation, this is another great night not to be missed!

We will have songs of vulnerability, humour and passion with Nova Scotian Singer-songwriter Erika Kulnys, joining us on her Irish tour. Italian guitarist Julien Colarossi will be leading his soulful jazz quartet in a stream of energy and beautiful arrangments. Clarinetist Paul Roe and Pianist Aileen Cahill will be performing Brahms, Schubert and new music from composer Kenneth Edge. And finally we will feature another first for Listen at, we will be screening "Buzzards" a short film by a young writer/director Seamus Hanley

Roca Reho is a super-group of Ireland's leading Jazz musicians featuring Nick Roth, Justin Carroll, Dave Redmond and Graham Hopkins. Justin Carroll will also be exploring sound, with equipment of a similar age as himself: a Fender Rhodes, analog synthesizer, ring modulator and tape delay. Poet Sean Ruane will be reading his work and Guitarist Patrick Groenland will be playing and singing a range of pieces from around the world, Tanzanian songs and West African traditional Kora music. It's going to be another extraordinary night.

Insufficient Funs will be celebrating the launch of their new EP fresh from this year's 12 Points Festival in San Sebastian. Writer and sometimes performer Jona Xhepa will be reading her work inspired by modern Irish narratives. Drummer and songwriter Sean Carpio will be presenting music for Drums and Feedback loops with his new Trio. And to finish out the night, Unshaped Form will be performing their alternative soundtracks to film shorts and silent movies. This will be a cracker of a night !

This month at Listen at Arthurs we have tons of diverse musical talent. Izumi Kimura will be launching, not one, but two albums of her music with guitarist Tommy Halferty. Michelle O'Brien, Jesse Smith and Éamonn de Barra form one of the most potent traditional trios of recent times. Stripped back vocal and drum ensemble SELK with Anna Jordan and Dennis Cassidy bring together a mixture of vocal loops, electronic samples and percussion. And Composer and pianist Kian Geiselbrechtinger will be performing Scriabin's 'Poeme-Nocturne' and his own 'Behind The Door' for solo piano.

This month at Listen at Arthurs we have the return of broadcaster Billy O Hanluain who will be reading some of his social / political prose. Joseph Houston and Aisha Orazbayeva will be visiting us from london with an Avant-garde programme for piano and violin including John Cage's duet "Two6".
Mary and the Pigeons will be joining us with a lush collection of orchestral sounds, and finally, the all percussionist group 'Bangers and Crash' featuring Alex Petcu, Maeve O'Hara and Paddy Nolan. This is a powerhouse of a line-up with literally something for everyone.

This Month we have: Leinster Poetry Slam Champion; Poetician John Cummins will be reading his latest work. The recorder virtuoso Laoise O'Brien will be performing music by Francis Fleynjan, Enrique Granados and Heitor Villa Lobos with guitarist Michael O'Toole. A beguiling tapestry of sound, ranging from Irish jigs to Persian 'dastgáh' from Navá, a group of young musicians exploring the relationship between the ancient musical cultures of Ireland and Persia. And last but not lease, Maeve O'Hara (Vibraphone) and Matthew Berrill (Clarinet) will be performing new music by composer Dylan Rynhart.

April's Listen at Arthurs will be very special. We will be joined by some masters of modern and traditional music. It will be our privilege to present American minimilast Composer Tom Johnson. Flautist Harry Bradley, TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year, 2014 will be performing with Sean McKeon (Uilleann pipes). Legendary Irish Guitarist Tommy Halferty and composer and pianist Greg Felton will present their new chamber project "Anda" with Derek Whyte (bass) and if that wasn't enough, Twin Headed Wolf, the eccentric folk flavoured twin-sister double act complete this massive night of music. We continue in our concert series on the 12th of March, in our new space, Arthurs of Thomas St.
We have tradional and folk group The Sons of Mary who have specially prepared a selection of material from the early 1800s. Flautist Miriam Kaczor will lead a special trio of flute, harpsichord and cello performing a specially chosen program of Debussy, Bach and Piazzolla. New vocals/bass/drums trio Berri with Jenna Harris, Derek Whyte and Matthew Jacobson will provide lush vocal loops with rolling beats and Kian Geiselbrechtinger will talk about Robert Emmet's Speech from the Dock (given that Emmet was hanged and beheaded outside the front door of Arthurs), and then recite it in full. This is a powerful program with something for everyone, see you then.
At our first event in Arthurs on Thomas st, we will have the National Concert Hall Javanese Gamelan Orchestra, Singer-songwriter Inni-K, Poet Iggy McGovern and Pianists Kian Geiselbrechtinger & David Bremner performing Phillip Glass' 'The Hours'
The Ardú vocal ensemble will be performing fresh settings of popular songs, exploring the use of the voice as an instrument // excellent young Dublin musician Siobhan Doyle, will be continuing our violinist series with support from Music Network // Olesya Zdorovetska's ‘Zvuky Skazu’ (The Sounds of Telling) is a sonic journey through contemporary Ukrainian poetry for voice and citera // Songwriter April Cleary will be performing her own acoustic-folk songs // and composer Dylan Rynhart will give a composer's voice talk, supported by the Contemporary Music Centre. Dylan will speak on his work with speech melody and new works, to be performed by the Fuzzy Logic Ensemble immediatly afterwards.

Eileen Carpio will be curating a special Charity Listen at event in Bello Bar. All funds go to "Refugee Child" an amazing charity set up by people like you and me who have put their lives on hold to help others, especially refugee children.
Come and hear the amazing wealth of talent in Dublin city on the 22nd of Dec at the Bello Bar, and in doing so save children's lives. Every penny makes an immeasurable difference and you can see exactly where your money goes with regular updates on Refugee Child's facebook page.

We kick off our new season in a new venue of Bello Bar, just up the canal. Below the Lower Deck Bar in Portabello, Bello Bar offers more space, more stage and comfortable chairs, it's gonna be even better. On the bill this month is Songwriter Tommy Moore, thoughtful and inventive jazz piano trio CEO Experiment, Storyteller Aideen McBride will be reading from her new book and a Folk and family duo of Matthew and Naomi Berrill

Pianist Justin Carroll will be Exploring sound, with equipment of a similar age as himself: a Fender Rhodes, analog synthesizer, ring modulator and tape delay. Poet Jona Xhepa will be treating us to some Poetry and Parody. Cathal Roche and Izumi Kimura will perform a sequence of short improvised duets, adopting pages from the 'I Ching' or 'Chinese Book of Changes'. Expect lyrical fireworks from poet Dave Rock with accompaniment from Pianist Greg Felton. And some fresh sounds from saxophonist Chris Engel and his jazz trio.
